Sitka Alaska Activities & Surrounding Area
Besides charter fishing for salmon and halibut, historic Sitka has many
other attractions and points of interest . . .
From the lodge you can observe many sea birds in their natural setting...
eagles, herons, terns and many more. While fishing from a charter
boat you are likely to see a variety of wildlife including whales,
porpoises, sea otters, sea lions, seals, brown bear and black tail deer just
to cite a few of the possibilities. These sightings provide great
photographic opportunities.
The Sitka Seaside Lodge is conveniently located on the waterfront in town
and close to shopping and various historical and cultural attractions. The
Russian influence is evident with several landmarks including Castle Hill
and St. Michael's Cathedral. Sitka was the Russian regional capitol and the
site of the transfer of Alaska to the United States.
There is also the Totem Park and cultural center where you can watch
demonstrations of native beading, silver carving, and traditional wood
carving. The Tlinkit dancers also offer a performance in full regalia.
Other points of interest include the Rapture Rehabilitation Center, Whale
Park, a salmon hatchery, museums, galleries, gift shops and music festivals
during the month of June.
While fishing is the major activity in Sitka, you can also hike and explore
the nearby Tongass National Forest, leisurely stroll the boardwalks over
muskeg, go kayaking in Sitka Sound, or just relax at the lodge.
